"Rendezvous With My Dancing Muse"

Rendezvous With My Dancing Muse

bouquet of honeysuckle lingers
as the August breeze drifts by
breathing life into silent shadows

under a single shimmering star
I search for his snake-like
chain in the grass and tether him

with bohemian juices flowing I
raise my hands to the heavens
kick my heels and twirl on the
green velvet dance floor

the rosebud tree silhouetted
against midnight blue sky
waltzes as I do my own eccentric
rendition of modern jazz

my unbridled spirit choreographs
from deep-rooted remnants
of lessons long forgotten

tallest of evergreens
do their dark hula as
green and white veined grasses
sway in perfect time

lightening bugs flicker
their fireworks dance
rising high they
tango circle twirl
spiral and dip low

we each move to the same
nocturnal rhapsody
and our dance goes on
until he barks
